“Save the Day, Vote” or not. An ad guy explains to Joss Whedeon why his ad misses.

What does a bunch of celebrities and a dose of condescension add up to? Answer: Ennui. Sorry, Joss.

Read the comments on YouTube, they’re priceless.

Anyone who’s turned a TV or opened a laptop or tapped a smartphone screen in the past year has heard or read what a despicable person Donald J Troll is. He hates babies and he wants to blow up the world. We’ve heard it all.

Privileged celebrities, even in great quantity, aren’t going to make us believe it even more than we already do. It’s like advertising air. Yeah, we know to breathe in every few seconds. The problem isn’t our stupidity. As David Ogilvy pointed out a half a century ago, “the consumer isn’t an idiot, she’s your wife.”

Us plebiscites want a reason to like Hillary and to trust Hillary. But we keep hearing actual reasons not to trust her. Yeah, we already think the Donald is a troll but we also have a pretty low opinion of Hillary. And just maybe if Hillary could ask really nicely instead of acting so entitled.

Unfortunately, the messaging is likely to get nastier in the coming weeks. And it’s likely to drive a larger than expected number of voters to third-party candidates. Gary Johnson is polling way higher than expected, especially amongst the younger voters the above ad is targeting. I mean would you rather vote for your cool pot smoking uncle or your grandmother yelling at you to clean your room. Pass me the bong and wake me up in four years.

Disclaimer: I support neither major party candidate for president. They’re both too old and unlikable to unite our country.
