You are an entrepreneur
If you work in a creative field, you’re an entrepreneur.
Just like a brand, you are known in the marketplace by your product and you must develop a reputation for good work to survive. If the product you put out drops in quality, you’ll be looking for another job. Possibly at a lower rate.
You must cultivate your brand by doing great work. Then promote the work if it’s not recognizable to buyers of your services. Award shows, blogs and networking are great ways to get the word out.
You must stay relevant to your consumers. This means staying current with business trends, technology and, above all, listen to your demographic and know what they’re saying. Like a brand, you can’t lead and serve if you can’t relate to your customer and know what’s on their mind.
If you’re creative, embrace your entrepreneurial spirit. It’s not like you really have a choice.
